BlenderArtists Update

jitcrunch_th.jpgThe BlenderArtists site recently had to say goodbye to one of their moderators. They also added a new 'About' section with information on the history of the site and an explanation of their forum rules.

Roel Spruijt writes:

Recently I created a new sub-section of the main site, dedicated to information about the site and the forum. I've created a page that explains some of the history of BlenderArtists.org and a page that clearly states the rules of the forum. I'd like to encourage you to read these rules! The Moderators of the forum will enforce these rules to the best of their ability. We do not want to boss our visitors around, but we definitely need some guidelines to clearly state acceptable and unacceptable behaviour.

But what really caught my eye was the addition of the BlenderArtists shop where you can support the website by purchasing some wearable BA pride. I think that's a pretty cool idea. What do you think? Are you interested in shirts? Or maybe in other kinds of products?

I think I'm going to head over there and pick up one of those shirts. Very nice indeed!

Maybe something else that would be nice is a business card with some of one's personal blender art on it. Not to mention a hat, socks, wristband. I'm sure more people will come up with some interesting ideas.

I have not been around long enough but I wonder what the deal with blender artist is. It seems there was some crits about thier interfaces a

few months ago here, and a few days later what seemed to be an upset founder quit after some words here. At least that is what it looked

like to me. Now this strange post about read the rules. What is really happening over there? It seems like moderators are sick of being

dummped on or something. I have seen a number of threads here where people are just so rude and harsh. I don't envy Barts position at

    all.

Are there some people ruining things for everyone? A few people have the power to make life bad for all so what can be done to not wear

    the moderators out?

    Thanks

Hey, most people here are very polite! I don't think that there are big fights going on behind the screens at BA, but in my own experience, people often grow weary of performing the same task for a long time, even if it's for a popular & cool project or website. Timothy had been with Elysiun/BA for a LONG time and I guess the same was true for some of their moderators. Anyway, that's just how I think about it. Maybe Roel can comment if he spots this article!

Ok. I don't want to start people thinging bad. Thanks Bart.

Bart has nicely explained my reason for leaving BlenderArtists. The reason for Sten (Ztonzy) leaving are pretty much the same. So no, there is no 'battle' going on behind the scenes :)

It does look like Blender Artists is now gonna need to be looking for some new moderators.

    that sould say thinking :)

    Timothy,

Thanks for taking the time to explain. I was wondering :)

Anybody have an explanation for the Blender Artists logo? What does it mean? I don't see how it relates at all to Blender…

  9. 9 Kram1032 Edit Link

I think, it means "here is the place, where any artist, all around the world, can meet and dicuss with other artists" as there are three arrows pointing more or less to the same spot. The world is forshadowed by the ballshape of the tree arrows.
Then the three arrows also symbolize the three axes of 3Dspace (red = Xaxis, green= Yaxis, blue= Zaxis) which means, that these artists mainly work with 3Dart. Indirectly, that's also the hint to Blender.
(Am I right? That's completely interpretet at THIS moment in about five minutes ;))

Wow, seeing those make me want to get one, but I was wondering, does anyone know a place to get shirts with the "Blender" logo on them? Maybe the main site or something?

John, try the link on the blender3d.org website. that's where i got mine! ; )

i do like the idea of a blenderArtists shirt, but i might like the idea of a blenderNation shirt more…

    ( subtle hint )

A shirt with blender nations AND blender artists would be nice through (some version ideas: one logo back, one front; logos above another; beside another; both logos both front AND back in one of these Versions; may would be too cost intensive, but one logo left, one right, and custom letters printed on it… would be more expensive, than the others… many Variations are Possible!)

    @Kram1032:

That's pretty much the thinking behind the logo, yes. 3D, World, Communication and one place to do it. :) There's also animated version, but that wasn't used for the site.

I've thought to make black (or navy) shirts with italic lettering across the front the simple reads "ohomohok".

One Hand On Mouse One Hand On Keyboard — the Blender user's interface mantra.

But yeah, it'll be cool to see how ba.org continues to develop.

I just want to fall in on what both Bart and Timothy wrote, except for one thing, that I have also dumped my old nick for good(to correct Timothy). It is only me/myself/I now :)

    OOOOOOhomohk OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOohomohk…. *lol*
(sry for spamming… this HAD to be xD)

I've started noticing more Blender forums on the larger 3D boards. It's pretty cool, but I always come back to blenderartists.org -It's like a second home on the Internet.
