I've been watching a lot of Blender video tutorials lately and I thought some of them were very good and some of them, while being produced with the best intentions, weren't. This got me thinking: what are the elements of a 'good' video tutorial? Maybe this checklist can help you when you're producing one.

Blender is used very much in low-budget amateur movies. “Ideality” is a good example of this, and its moment in the BlenderNation spotlight has arrived.

Sebastián Arias wrote to us about his Spanish Dub of Elephants Dream. Now my Spanish doesn't go much beyond ordering food and drinks, but from what I've seen so far they've done a great job! You can view their work on YouTube, or download the full DVD version from their website.

Lighting out a scene is an art on its own. YotoPhoto - it's a weird name but it's an awesome resource! Have you ever been working on a project and needed a reference image. Maybe you needed a color pallette, a background reference, or just some stock art for details in your textures - you can find all of these at YotoPhoto.
The technical aspects of animating and rendering are not all there is. Its important to understand that bringing the scene and character to life is essential to producing appealing work.
A new version of the open source rendering system Sunflow has been released. And if you haven't been to the Sunflow website lately (in the past month), Kris Berg from MUX Medialab built a new website for the project.

Sandra Gilbert writes: Welcome to Issue #8, Our Mega Issue on ‘Car Modeling’. We have packed 71 pages full of car modeling tutorials, covering tips and techniques from the body to the rims. We take a behind the scenes look at “Cutting the Waves’ and Claas Kuhnen gives us an in-depth description on creating brushed metal shaders. And just for fun, there is even a Low Poly car to model and drive around.

I just spoke to Ton on IRC and he told me that 2.43 RC2 has been released. At this moment, there's not much information available on the changes. He comments: "We still have 20-40 commits per day at this moment - that's too much to report on.." (I guess the true reason is that he wasted too much time playing Zelda and eating Italian food at my place this weekend ;-) Still, it's another step towards a stable 2.43 release so grab a copy, give it a try and report any issues that you may find on the bugtracker.
Well, seems like it was yesterday that I was in Beja to give some Workshops in the Animatu Festival.
