In an excellent demonstration of using Open Source software to produce visual effects Octavio Augusto Méndez Sánchez has produced a simple animation of a fish in a glass.
Octavio Augusto Méndez Sánchez used Blender 2.42, Icarus 3D Tracker, The GIMP, CinePaint and Audacity to produce the video clip.
Blenderart Magazine is preparing for their 7th issue and they are looking for content. Sandra Gilbert sent in the following call for content:

In my adolescent years I had a friend who was very good at drawing. He could draw cartoons and accurately recreate what he saw. I was in awe if his ability especially since I could not even draw a human stick figure the same way twice. He was a “natural” artist. He tried to teach me and his first attempt was to get me to draw a short straight line. He made it look so easy!

Many have relied on graphicall.org to download the latest release, cvs, and optimized builds of Blender - even BlenderNation, which constantly references it. Recently, the site went down without warning, and everyone was worried that it might be gone forever. But luckily, there is no need to worry at all.

It seems that everyone around the world has been busy writing Blender books! Earlier this week we already saw 'Introduction to Character Animation in Blender'. Now we've heard that a new Blender book was released in Japan last month: 'Blender Beginner's Bible', by Shinichi Tasaki.
Lindsay Kerr of Solo2design has produced an example walk through of Ambient Occlusion rendering in Blender.
