All Good Things…

Edit Link

bconf-pass.jpgIt is with pain in my heart that I had to leave the 'after-party' of the Blender Conference in Café Cuba tonight. Talking to Bassam about his time in Buenos Aires with the Plumiferos team and our shared admiration for what they are accomplishing, discussing the Blender.org redesigns with Matt, learning about Colin Litster's history and aspirations with Blender, having some good laughs with Andy and Lee, finally meeting Rui and looking back on our time in Boston with Wybren - all of it came to an end because of one simple reason: tomorrow is just another day at the office, and I had to return home…

Blender Conference Day Two

Edit Link

filipp.jpgSaturday was as exciting as Friday, if not more so. To start off, most of yesterday's streams are now available for download via BitTorrent. Please check the downloads page on Blender.org and remember to leave your client open when it's finished so other people can benefit from it. The Art Festival video will probably be online tomorrow - the guys here are working hard to make that a reality.

Blender Conference Day One

Edit Link

friday.jpgThe first day of the conference is over and Rui and I had a blast talking to people and getting an interview from Angela. It's 22:00 now, the Art Festival has started and we haven't had dinner yet so I'll only say - enjoy the Conference Journal!

Blender Conference: Live Video Stream

Edit Link

afbeelding-1.pngDon't ask my why the organisation didn't publish this, but you can follow the Conference LIVE via streaming video and the quality is *awesome*. Speakers use a microphone and they're mixing the camera stream with the computer display at the right times.

abomb.jpgOnce again Colin Litster will be showcasing the flexibility of Blender. This time it will be at the Blender conference. If you are one of those lucky enough to get tickets to the conference then you will get to see Colin demonstrating how to use Blender's nodes in a workshop on Sunday 22nd October, from 1330 to 1500. Colin has given us an exciting preview of what to expect at his website, Cogfilms.

blender-konference5_s.jpgThe Blender Conference begins tomorrow and I'll be there for three days, armed with my videocamera, microphone and laptop. As the organisation has already found enough people to help them record the sessions, I will be free to focus on giving a general impression of the event and on interviewing the attending Blender superstars.

Take a look at the Conference Program and let me know who YOU would like to see on camera and which questions you want me to ask them.

Free Print Magazine! - Computer Graphics World

Edit Link

cgw_906_pc1-2.jpgThis is a magazine that I've received for almost a couple of years. It's always a good quick read and has lots of info on new software. Also, there's always a behind-the-scenes feature on the latest computer animated films and movie special effects. It's certainly not Blender-specific but, I think it's important to know what's going on in the industry, outside of your own preferred sphere of activity.

The magazine focuses on innovative graphics technology and applications. Written for engineers, researchers, designers, and animators, CGW explores how leading-edge graphics techniques are used in CAD, architecture, scientific visualization, special effects, digital video, film, and interactive entertainment.

Telephone Cord Tutorial

Edit Link

phonecord_th.jpgGreybeard has done it again with a great new tutorial on creating telephone cord in Blender. As with all of his video tutorials the care for details and quality have impressed us. If for anything, it is worth taking a look at this just for seeing how professional a video tutorial can be.

Frame/Time Counter Display Tool

Edit Link
framecounters.jpgMichael Thoenes has a nice frame/time counter display tool for Blender. This allows you to ID your animation frames with a frame or time counter by placing one or all of the counters in front of your camera and rendering.

igor_05_trouble.jpgA congratulation to Neils Philipsen aka MadMesh for completeing his student film graduation project "The Asylum." This is a black & white film in the style of the old classic Frankenstien's Monster films and a bit Tim Burton with music was composed by Sidhartha Barnhoorn.

Book Review: inspired 3D Short Film Production

Edit Link

makemovie.jpgSo, you want to make a movie.

It's probably every Blenderheads ultimate goal: Create your own animated masterpiece that let's everyone see the wonders of your creative imagination! Whether it's a comedy, drama, sci-fi, action, etc., you want to finally get around to creating something that allows you to bring all the knowledge and experience you've gained into one project.

But, where do you start? How do you get from point-A to point-B? And, most importantly, how do you finish the dang thing?! Oh sure, many have started projects but, how many actually finish them?

What you need is a highly-detailed guide. One that spares no detail and, is not based on any particular 3D software application. One that will illuminate things that seem so insignificant but, can ultimately make or break your entire project. Well, here it is:
