Blender CAVE Development Sprint Dates Set

14

cave.jpgWe've previously posted about "The Sprint" which is a project to get Blender to work in a VR/CAVE environment.  Now the Blender Sprint project has set dates and is calling for participation.

The Sprint is set for September 21st through 25th, 2006.  With the dates set, you can start checking your calendar and applying for a spot on the project which will be based in Innsbruck, Austria.  From the Sprint's goals:

The Sprint has several goals that we want to reach, which are categorized in the following three groups based on priority:

  1. Blender/CAVE Data Exchange:  Establish a simple workflow that would allow the CAVE users to work with Blender.
  2. Documentation:  All the steps necessary to make the CAVE environment work with Blender will be documented and the documentation will be opened up to allow the Blender community to work with it.
  3. Demonstrations:  In order to be able to better show what the possibilities of Blender coupled with a CAVE system are, the Zukunftszentrum wants to create a few demonstrations that can easily be shown at the Zukunftszentrum itself but which can also be used by the community to continue to work with.

They are especially interesed in participants with experience in:

  • Using Blender in a VR/CAVE environment
  • Blender's Game Engine
  • Blender Python Scripting
  • Blender's Verse integration
  • Blender's core codebase
So now is the time to bring Blender into the realm of virtual reality and join up with the team that will bring it there!

  1. That would be so great, walking in realtime and realsize through our architektural models.
Can's wait to see it running at SARA in the Netherlands.
Might even going to use it...
    Its such a great tool

  2. VR is Virtual Reality. I think CAVE is where you walk around a room and you see through special glasses a fake 3D veiw of what's in the room, though it's not really there of course... I don't know for sure.

  3. Its a pity i dont have experience in the asked fields, but I want to be a blender CAVE user for we have a CAVE (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment) on school.

  4. Oh yeah...I remember those..

someone told me about certain universities that have ridicoulously expensive projection virtual reality caves that cost a fortune...and is not available to ANYONE from the general public...

  5. 15000 euros, nothing keeps you from buying. Or make something else what works. 4 to 6 computers for every screen, 4 to 6 screens and 4 to 6 beamers, a few skills and there you go.

  6. Phreak of Nature on

    Hmmmmmm this is sooooooooooooooooo cool
unfortunately im not going to be there but that doesnt , say that im not going to participate with input
