Sign of the Juggernaught
Dmancrosse has posted a very cool picture called ‘Sign of the Juggernaught’. It is one of those images that you can stare at for a while, trying to discover new things and wondering about the story behind it.
Blender Wallpaper
Nico Hagen has posted two cool Blender wallpapers on his website. I quite like them as they are both very quiet and easy on the eye.
Blender for pocketPC Revived
Do you remember Blender for the IPAQ? It was one of the projects we did at Not a Number, I guess to prove to the investors that mobile 3D was feasible. Amazingly, it worked and for a while it was good. Unfortunately, the IPAQ version was not part of the Open Source deal that the Blender Foundation struck with the investors so after the second bankruptcy it was no longer available.
Until now.
Orange Updates
There are two new updates on the Orange blog: Matt (Lead Artist, Titles and 2D designer) writes about how the team manages all the files of the project in ‘Behind the scenes, shots and, er… files’. It’s interesting to learn how they tackled the problem of managing such a huge amount of files.
New Tutorial: Creating a Heart
I originally wrote this tutorial for the Blender Tutorial Guide #1 and later is was part of a downloadable PDF in the Blender e-shop. The Guide and the PDF are no longer available, but Ton has given me permission to publish it on my website.
Video Tutorials
Video tutorials are a great way of learning how to use Blender. Apart from having someone actually giving you a cool demonstration, they’re the best way of getting to appreciate the power of Blender. (You won’t believe the number of times I’ve heard ‘Oooh! I didn’t know Blender could do *that*!’ when I gave a demo ;-).
Tutorial: Modeling an Aircraft
Alvaro Luna Bautista has worked for more than four months on a model of a Policarpov I-15 Chato aircraft. During this period he has documented his efforts step by step. The result is an incredibly detailed tutorial with many screenshots, reference images and downloadable files.
Blender 2.41 Released

Blender 2.41 is out! And if you thought that this was ‘just’ a bugfix release (2.40 was released only one month ago) then well, think again. Both the Game Engine and the core toolset have been thourougly improved.
Yafray hack: Accelerated Photon Map Rendering
RCRuiz has posted a hack that speeds up Photon Map rendering in Yafray a great deal. It’s a bit thin on the details but it would seem that he stores the photon distribution in your scene so that you can quickly re-render it from any camera angle and position.
